Give Body Butters, Body Creams, Body Lotions Oh My! What is the difference?

Posted by Joy Poteat on

I’m often asked, “What is Body Butter?” Out of the three types of moisturizers, Body Butter is the thickest consistency. It consists of a combination of oils and butters, such as Shea, Mango, Avocado, Cocoa, etc. The purpose of body butter is to retain moisture and lubricate the skin.  The parts of the body that are the driest are feet, hands, elbows, and legs. You will probably need something thicker on these areas. Butters will give you the extra nourishment that your skin thirsts for.

Using your body butter after a shower is ideal because this is an excellent way to lock in the water, causing moisture to stay absorbed into your skin longer.

Body Cream is sandwiched right in the middle of body butter and lotion. It’s not as thin as lotion, and it’s not as thick as body butter. You may see some form of liquid in the ingredients, such as water, aloe Vera juice, coconut milk, Goat’s milk, etc. Body Cream is used for the same purpose as Body Butter without as much butter and oil.

Body lotion gives us the thinnest type of application. Most of the formulation will be water based. Lotions are generally used on the legs, arms and stomach area. Because lotion contain less oil and butter, it is more idea for oily skin. If you have dry skin or certain areas of dry skin, you may find that a butter or cream work better for you.

NJOY Natural has a large variety of healthy moisturizers, naturally made without chemicals and contains a great balance of what your skin need to stay nourished and hydrated throughout the day, regardless of the season.
